febit first to offer miRNA microarrays based on miRBase 15
LEXINGTON, Mass. (USA), and HEIDELBERG, Germany, April 26, 2010 – Today febit announced the update of its Geniom miRNA Biochip based on the brand-new release of miRBase version 15. The release 15 of the database represents a significant update. It contains over 3000 new hairpin sequences and more than 4000 new mature sequences.
Specifically, for the update of miRBAse 14 to 15 3377 new hairpin sequences and 4022 novel mature miR and miR* products have been added. All in all, release 15 of the miRBase contains 14197 entries representing hairpin precursor miRNAs, expressing 15632 mature miRNA products, in 133 species. The number of miRNA sequences for Homo sapiens is now 940.
The advances and rapid developments of miRNA research have manifested in a constantly growing number of publications about miRNA as well as frequent updates of the miRBase-- currently on version 15 (www.mirbase.org). febit’s miRNA microarrays identify individual miRNAs as well as complete miRNA signatures with a high degree of accuracy. The swift implementation of new miRNA sequences is necessary to assure comprehensive clinical research for obtaining specific and accurate miRNA-signatures. The Geniom Biochips are available as customized arrays or using a capture probe design based on the latest sequence data available in the miRBase. The Geniom miRNA Biochip is usually updated around 24 hours after the newest version of the miRBase is released.
